Model Resource Room at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya INS Hamla, Mumbai
Every classroom has children who are trying their best, yet learning feels harder for them than for others. They may struggle with reading, attention, processing, or communication. Too often, these children are identified but do not receive the structured support they need to progress with confidence.
To help change this experience in a meaningful and scalable way, IMCD has supported the establishment of a Model Resource Room at Kendriya Vidyalaya INS Hamla, Mumbai in partnership with Sri Aurobindo Society under Project Inclusion. This initiative reflects IMCD’s continued commitment to strengthening inclusive education infrastructure and enabling practical support inside mainstream schools.
The intent is clear and practical. Ensure that children with learning differences receive the right support, at the right time, within their own school environment.
Beyond a classroom: Enabling personalised learning support
This resource room is not a separate or isolated space; it is part of the school ecosystem. Children continue in their regular classrooms and come here for structured, personalised support for a few hours each week.
The room is designed to be calm, engaging and purposeful. It offers:
- Focused small group and one to one learning support
- Specialised literacy and remediation tools
- Sensory and motor development materials
- Structured learning plans tailored to each child
- Close coordination between special educators, teachers and parents
The emphasis is on helping children build skills, confidence and independence, while staying fully included in mainstream learning.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn with confidence and dignity. Our commitment is to support inclusive learning environments where learning differences are understood and supported in practical ways. Through initiatives like this, we hope to contribute to ecosystem to make inclusion real, consistent, and accessible.” Narendra Varde, Regional President, IMCD APAC and Managing Director, IMCD India & Bangladesh
Why inclusive education matters now more than ever
Across India, more children with learning differences are enrolling in schools than ever before. While this is progress, many schools still lack structured in-school support systems and specialised learning spaces. As a result, identification does not always lead to meaningful learning improvement.
The Model Resource Room bridges that gap by connecting screening with real intervention and classroom teaching with targeted support. It turns inclusion from an idea into daily practice.
A scalable and replicable inclusive education model
Developed under Project Inclusion, a national, inclusive education initiative of Sri Aurobindo Society, reaching 4 lakh education stakeholders with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, this Resource Room is designed as a demonstration model that can be replicated across schools and regions. It combines infrastructure, trained support, and a structured intervention framework.
Over the next two years, it will directly support around 30 children, while also building awareness and capability among teachers and school leaders.
A shared commitment
IMCD’s support for this initiative reflects a strong belief that inclusion is not an add on. It is essential to equitable education. When schools are equipped to support different learning needs, more children stay engaged, progress with confidence, and feel a sense of belonging.
Sometimes, the right environment and extra support can change a child’s entire learning journey. This Resource Room is built for exactly that purpose.
